Woodson and Ford Update

It seems the more "news" outlets, the more we get the same news. We were first on the scene with a report about new "secret" speakeasy Woodson and Ford in mid-December, and Wednesday, what happens? Urban Daddy sends out an email "introducing" Woodson and Ford. Sorry folks, we introduced it already - and kicked up a bit of dust in the process.

Are there at least any updates on the places hours and access? Nope, UD actually has exactly the same info as in our post.

So, where is the news? See for yourself and hear from one of Woodson and Ford's partners after the jump:
We asked Lynnette, a rather vocal defender of the place's secret back in December, about it and whether the joint was actually open to people off the street now. She had this to say, "Still just open for events. We have been booking lots of large birthdays. We do not know if we are expanding our operating hours"

Hmm, okay. So why did Urban Daddy feel the need to tell the world about it? And just how similar are the write-ups?

From our Dec 15 post:
"Places slipping in under the radar are a rarity in NYC. An unmarked basement location certainly helps. Limited operating hours, mostly on weekends, do too. Right now it is only an event space. And no, you likely can't get in right now."

Urban Daddy's opener:
"It's hard to keep a secret bar secret these days. Even speakeasies seem to have public relations teams. So it's refreshing when we come upon a bar that isn't open, won't let you in and may not actually be a bar.

Introducing Woodson and Ford, destined to become the next great underground scene, now open (sort of) in Noho. Officially only open for private events or for those with the password."

A little background?
Boozy: "The cellar has a fascinating history. It was once Pfaff's Beer Cellar, circa the early 1800s, and hosted Mark Twain and Walt Whitman, among others. Later incarnations included a photo studio where Abe Lincoln's portrait was taken, a 1900s brothel... "

UD: "The space supposedly also has a bit of history as a photo studio where Abe Lincoln was shot (not like that), a brothel where two prostitutes had their throats slit and a pub where Walt Whitman and Mark Twain hung out. "

And drinks?
UD goes on to highlight one drink, the Woodrow Wilson, which we sampled, by listing its ingredients but doesn't actually seem to have tasted the drink.  Boozy's take on the unique rye-amaro-champagne creation is here.

Make what you will of it.

UD emails are pretty much useless entertainment (unless you're actually looking to go skydiving in Monaco or something similar), although they do have the occasional early word on openings. This time though, I remember reading and thinking, Oh UrbanDaddy, you are L-A-T-E! They obviously just plagiarized your post, so congrats, HB!
