Chambers Street Wines (148 Chambers Street) held another of their giant wine tastings yesterday, this one called "The Real Wine Assault II." The wines in this tasting were from 13 different wineries in the portfolio of Louis/Dressner, one of the best importers out there. As a whole, they tended to be well-made and fairly expensive, and all were from either Italy or France.
After the jump, our list of the best wines that were tasted.

One of the best producers in Piedmont, Luca Roagna, had three wines on display. A 2007 Dolcetto d'Alba ($15.99) was good and drinking well already, while the 2004 Barolo Vigna Rionda ($69.99) and 2001 Barolo La Rocca e la Pira ($62.99) were both excellent though definitely eligible for serious aging.
Franck Peillot from Savoie in the Rhone-Alps had a couple of excellent whites. The Bugey Montagnieu Brut Methode Traditionelle NV ($19.99) was a refreshing sparkling that was 60% chardonnay and 30% altesse. The Roussette de Bugey Montagnieu Altesse 2007 was flat-out delicious ($22.99).
Another clear highlight was Eric Texier's Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Vielles Vignes 2005, a delicious white from the Rhone. The price is an eye-popping $44.99 but it's definitely an excellent wine.
Other very good wines included the Jasnieres "Kharakter" 2006, an organic white from Christian Chaussard ($23.99), the Desviges family's Morgon "Javernieres" 2006 a gamay retailing for $25.99, the Francois Pinon Vouvray Silex Noir 2007 ($23.99) and Alessandra & Vittorio Bera's Arcese White Canelli Wine 2007, a complex white with an aromatic, off-dry nose and drier finish that is a steal at $11.99.
As a chaser, we had an Americano, an excellent aperitivo made from the grignolino grape ($36.99). The winemaker was very enthusiastic about this product and rightfully so. A bit with some water, ice and orange peel made a fantastic aperitivo. It was a fitting end to an excellent winetasting.
